Design Principles

  • Historically Conscious
  • Open Character
  • Sustainable Materials

The program of requirements revealed that the building should be recognizable, exude sport and be a sustainable integral building. This was translated into a historically conscious design with an open character, constructed mostly of sustainable wood materials.

The historical character comes from the design inspiration "De Delft". The open character is visible in the large glass facade areas and the open spaces and voids throughout the building.

Structure

  • SHS-HF 400x400 columns
  • Largest span: 25.2m
  • Trusses: 1.68m high
  • HE260 beams (>7.2m spans)
  • Gl28h glulam beams (<7.2m)
  • CLT and hollow-core slabs

The building is constructed with SHS-HF columns poured into the concrete foundation along with concrete cores housing elevator shafts and staircases. The largest span of 25.2m is achieved with 1.68m high trusses in which the sports halls are hung.

Moment resistant glulam trusses consisting of 4 parts (2 columns and 2 beams connected by finger welding) are placed throughout the building to support the roof and facade.
